The Fen Harriers is a Youth Flag Football Club based in Cambridge (England). The Club is a member of the National Flag Football Association, which is affiliated to the British Youth American Football Association (BYAFA). Anyone from 14 years to 18 years is allowed to play, but children from the age of 12 may train with us.
We play 9-a-side, non-kitted football in a leage (National Flag Football Association - NFFA), with playoffs leading to a national final. The season is a summer one, running from early May to the beginning of August. We play 8-10 matches per season. Depending on our standing (wins and losses, points for and against) in the league we may compete for the National Championship, the Youth Bowl or the National Plate.
Flag football is an adaptation of American Football, but is played without pads and helmets (non-kitted). This puts the emphasis on technique and skill rather than strength and size. The flags are two strips of plastic held on a belt round the waist. Tackles are made by pulling one of these flags off. Blocking is allowed, but it is not as physical.
We train on Sundays at Jesus Green, Cambridge, from 10:30 until 1:30.
Feel free to come along and talk to us, or phone our manager, Diana Tallon, on 01223 564649
Our home games are played at Coldhams Common, Coldhams Lane, Cambridge. If you are in the area you can come and watch. Kick off is at 2pm.
